The ability behind the questions

Spatial reasoning is one of the CCAT's three broad categories and assesses rapid recognition of visual rules and relationships.

Typical question pattern

How to approach each item

  1. Compare position, count, fill, and orientation independently.
  2. Find the feature that changes consistently each step.
  3. Apply that rule once to predict the missing figure.

Worked example

A simple version of the rule

If a shape gains one side at each step, triangle, square, pentagon is followed by a hexagon.

  • Track rotation angle and fill state separately.
